ACTIVITIES

Netball

The netball club has 20 members at present and welcomes players of all standards. We play every Thursday evening, from 6.30pm until 7.30pm. We play “social” netball but also have a team that plays in the Northumberland league whilst other members play in friendlies against neighbouring clubs. In the summer months from the end of March usually until late September, we play at the Sports Club at Allen Mill. In the winter we use Allendale Primary School and Community Sports Hall.

We encourage those interested in playing netball to come along and join us for a “taster” session. Please check the Sports Hall calendar for up to date information.

There are two courts available as well as all of the necessary equipment. The club welcomes new members of all standards, ladies and men, from complete beginners to more experienced players.

Judo

Judo helps develop basic and fundamental physical fitness in a number of ways, such as the development of strength, flexibility, agility, speed, dynamic and static balance, explosive power, and endurance.

If you are a qualified coach and interested in starting a Judo club we would be glad to hear from you.

Soft Play

Keeping very young children entertained can sometimes be a challenge and it may be tempting to rely on a tablet or the TV to keep them occupied.

An exciting range of soft-play equipment is available at Allendale Sports Hall.

To help maintain your child’s health and fitness, it’s essential that they get the right amount of exercise – both inside and outside of school or nursery – and soft play is a great way of achieving that.

Indoor Cricket

The game of indoor cricket can be played in any suitably sized multi-purpose sports hall.

Indoor cricket is a fast-paced, action-packed version of the game suitable for all levels, with easy-to-follow rules and an emphasis on fun and fitness.

There are two main formats of indoor cricket, one played with a soft ball and tension net, and one with a hard ball.

We currently don’t have an indoor cricket club, but the sports hall can be booked to play this sport with a group of friends or if you are interested in starting an indoor cricket club we would be glad to hear from you.

Basketball

The Sports Hall is an ideal location to play basketball – with two mini-basketball courts marked out – and all necessary equipment is available.

Although we don’t currently have a basketball club, the Hall is available to hire should you wish to arrange your own game. Alternatively, if you are interested in starting up a local club then we’d love to hear from you.

There are lots of ways to play basketball. If you have a lot of people, you could play a full game, or 3 on 3. It’s easy to play 1 on 1, or even on your own!

Short Tennis

The ‘short tennis’ game is played with different equipment than that used in standard tennis, including soft balls, lowered nets and smaller rackets. Although many of the rules are similar to the long version of the game, short tennis does have a number of rules unique to the sport.

The hall is an ideal environment for playing short tennis because the two badminton courts match the required dimensions for short tennis.

For further information please contact Valeria Dunn (email. ianwhdunn@btinternet.com )

Trampolining

The Sports Hall has two Olympic-sized trampolines and the necessary harness equipment available for advanced coaching which is available to suitably qualified coaches.

In the past, two trampolining sessions were run for enthusiastic participants each week. If you are a qualified trampoline coach and interested in re-starting a trampolining club, we would be glad to hear from you.

Interested coaches should contact our secretary, Brendon Jackson (email: hogsback@hotmail.co.uk)

Volleyball

Volleyball is a fun sport that is easy to learn and can be enjoyed by all. The Sports Hall has two courts and all necessary equipment is available.

The Hall is available to hire should you wish to arrange your own game. A booking form can be accessed on our website by clicking here

Gymnastics

Currently Allendale Primary School runs an after-school session on Monday evenings for its pupils, run by a qualified coach.

Gymnastics is widely renowned as a sport that can improve overall fitness, strength, balance and body control, as well as helping to improve athletic performance in any other sport.

We have a range of specialised gymnastic equipment – and would be keen to hear from any qualified coaches who might want to run further sessions for the wider community.

Interested coaches should contact our secretary, Brendon Jackson (email: hogsback@hotmail.co.uk)

pickle ball in allendale

Pickle Ball

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played with a plastic ball and paddles on a badminton-sized court with a modified tennis net.

How to play:

  • Players hit the ball over the net with their paddles
  • The ball must bounce once on each side before a volley can be made
  • Players can’t volley from inside the “kitchen”, a marked area near the net
  • The game is scored as the first player to 11 points, but by two clear points
  • If the score reaches 40-40, it’s called “deuce”

Table Tennis

Table tennis (also known as ping-pong) is a racket sport derived from tennis but distinguished by its playing surface being atop a stationary table.

Table tennis is a game played inside by two or four people. The players stand at each end of a table which has a low net across the middle and hit a small light ball over the net, using small bats.
